Sustainability Report 2018

Health and safety matters A safe and healthy working environment is essential for the long-termwellbeing of our people and the sustainability of our business. Our ambition is to prevent all fatalities, occupational diseases and injuries at work. The effective management of risk is at the heart of our approach to health and safety, to prevent, mitigate and ultimately eliminate health and safety risks. Our global health and safety programme, SafeAgri, aims to bring about long-term sustainable change by giving everyone the knowledge and tools they need to create safe workplaces and to perform their work safely. We are implementing our three-year health and safety plan which has three priorities. These are to: • prevent catastrophic events through the implementation of our catastrophic risk management framework in all our operations to mitigate and prevent catastrophic events • eliminate fatalities through the use of hazard protocols to create a safe work environment and prevent fatalities • reduce the frequency and severity of injuries by focusing on the local hazards that lead to common injuries and health impacts. The plan focuses on developing our safety culture, so that throughout the business, managers take responsibility for leading safety and every employee takes responsibility for their own safety and that of their workmates. We are developing our risk management capabilities to identify andmanage all health and safety risks across our operations and improve compliance with our SafeAgri requirements. We also maintain effective systems and processes so that we can communicate, implement andmonitor health and safety effectively. Health and safety The health and safety of our people is our highest priority. We aim to become an industry leader in both health and safety outcomes. Our ultimate goal is for all our workplaces to be free from incidents and injuries. 6 Glencore Agriculture Sustainability Report 2018
