Sustainability Report 2018
As a global leader in the sourcing, handling, processing and marketing of agricultural commodities and products, we take our responsibility towards our people, our communities, the environment and the quality of the food and feed we supply very seriously. This report outlines our approach to being a sustainable business and what we have done during 2018 to fulfil our responsibilities in these areas. Health and safety No matter how great the operational demands of our business, ensuring employees return to their families safely at the end of each day is our highest priority. Our ultimate goal is to achieve a workplace free from injuries and incidents. Our three-year health and safety improvement plan is being implemented, and is having a notable effect, with a reduction in incidents. Environment The long-term environmental sustainability of agriculture will be critical inmeeting the world’s future food demand. We are focused onminimising the environmental impact from our operations and supporting the environmental sustainability of our supply chains from the farm through to the end-use customer. Community We are proud to be a part of hundreds of communities in which we operate. As well as providing benefits to these communities through employment, purchasing goods and services and operating sustainable supply chains, we are supporting local communities and strengthening our focus on upholding human rights. Food and feed Upholding our position as a leader in agriculture relies on a constant focus on the safety and quality of the products we handle. This year has seen us join a number of international initiatives, including theWorld Business Council for Sustainable Development, its Soft Commodities Forum and the United Nations Global Compact. The public commitments we, and other members, have made are a significant step in achieving quantifiable, positive action throughout the industry as a whole. Business performance While there were challenges throughout 2018, the outlook and overall demand for our commodities remains very positive due to global population and wealth growth, and changing diets. Our strengths continue to position us well to create value for both producers and end-use customers as well as making a continued contribution to the communities where we operate. Looking ahead Ultimately, it is our belief that a safe working environment for each and every employee is the definitive measure of our success. We continue to focus on health and safety, as well as the environment and communities to integrate sustainability into all parts of our business.
