Sustainability Report 2018
Video helps reduce known injuries An innovative safety video featuring nine site employees talking about slips, trips and falls and manual handling processes has been developed for the Australia/New Zealand business. Slips, trips and falls andmanual handling continue to be the main causes of injury in our Australia/ New Zealand business. Since January 2017, 43% of injuries incurred during operations related to manual handling and 21% related to slips, trips and falls. It’s a safety video with a difference, as it uses Glencore Agriculture employees, all of whomhave experience in the activities they’re describing, and some have actually been injured doing the very tasks they’re talking about. The video is helping to increase awareness about the top 10 issues that continue to cause harm to our people as they go about their work for Glencore Agriculture, and it forms part of our active work developing our safety culture and leadership. The video has been well received by employees in our operations who have found it an engaging way to learn about avoiding the inevitable risks of working in these complex environments. Over 2018 we have seen our relentless focus on health and safety begin to show a real effect with the days lost or restricted through injury falling 38% on the 2017 figure. We saw a reduction in all our reported incidents: our Total Recordable Injury rate fell by 6% compared to 2017, and our Lost Time Injury Frequency Rate by 1%. Total recordable injuries fell by 11% Lost time injuries fell by 6% 9 Glencore Agriculture Sustainability Report 2018
