Sustainability Report 2018

Health and safety continued Active safety management We encourage a culture of reporting. We focus on learning from serious near-miss incidents through sharing our findings fromHigh Potential Risk Incidents. We see these as opportunities to review our processes and to put measures in place to prevent similar incidents. This practice contributes to a continuous improvement in our management of health and safety. The number of High Potential Risk Incidents reported in 2018 was 29. Elevator sensors installed Our wheatmilling processing facilities in Brazil have made safety improvements with the installation of sensors on bucket elevators tomanage the risk of explosion and fire. The installation of these sensors aligns to our first health and safety priority of preventing catastrophic events such as dust explosions. Bucket elevators operate constantly in the processing facility, lifting large and heavy quantities of wheat. It is possible for themto overheat, become overloaded ormisalignwhich presents a possible risk of an explosion or fire. Four different types of sensors are being installed to prevent bearing overheating, prevent overloading and prevent friction of the elevator belt. All sensors aremonitored by an interactive HMI (human machine interface) box where temperatures and alarms are identified. The elevators are regularly checked andmaintained by qualified employees whomonitor the condition and safety of the elevators using a preventive maintenance plan. The sensors add another layer of safety and ensure the elevators stop if they are at risk of causing a fire or explosion. We have installedmore than 270 sensors in 27 elevators in our wheatmill in São Paulo and are in the process of installing 970 sensors in 97 elevators in five of our other wheatmills. 2018 2017 2016 2015 4.22 3.31 Lost time injury frequency rate (LTIFR) (per million hours worked) 4.21 4.12 Lost time injury frequency rate (LTIFR) (per million hours worked) 2018 2017 2016 2015 9.01 7.70 10.21 9.58 Total recordable injury frequency rate (TRIFR) (per million hours worked) 8 Glencore Agriculture Sustainability Report 2018
